“Gertrude brought her poodle, Basket, to Balmain’s salon and sat there, and they paraded some dresses for her, and that’s when the famous Horst photograph was taken. The original print is sitting on the coffee table in my living room. It amused me very much – Gertrude looking as she did, and then this glamorous creature, with a ruff, towering over and looking down at her. And Basket was right there.
